Some new details about Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games’ upcomingSpider-Man game have come to light. Appearing on PlayStation’s E3 showrecently, Bill Rosemann from Marvel and Bryan Intihar of Insomniac revealed the game is not tied to next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and discussed how the game will depict an older Spider-Man.

“It’s standalone,” Rosemann said. “I think we’ve been inspired by all the different mediums that Marvel has, whether it’s film, animation, live-action, comic books, even t-shirts. So we’re looking at everything and we’re blending it all together. But it’s standalone; all new story, all new world. We’re always stretching, we’re always challenging, we’re always moving the characters forward.”

For his part, Intihar said, “For me, it’s about respecting the traditions of the franchise but mixing things up.” He went on to say that he was “surprised” by the level of freedom that Insomniac has to do what it wants for the game considering it’s such a massive brand.

Intihar also talked about how the new Spider-Man game will depict an older and more experienced Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

He is “someone who’s been doing this for more than a couple of years; we want to make sure his fighting style reflects that,” Inthihar explained. “To us, Peter is as important as the Spider-Man character.”

While Insomniac is not yet ready to divulge details on specific gameplay elements for the new Spider-Man title, Intihar teased that Parker’s intelligence will inform how he moves through the world.

“We’re going to push him in some areas, whether it’s traversal, whether it’s fighting, whether it’s just open world exploration,” he explained. “Peter is a really smart guy. How does that tie into his life not just as Peter Parker but when he brings [his intelligence] to the fight?”

Spider-Man, which is a working title for the PlayStation 4 game, represents the first licensed game Insomniac has ever made. Throughout the course of the developer’s 22-year history, all of its other franchises, including Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive, originated in-house.

The new Spider-Man title does not yet have a release date. Homecoming, meanwhile, comes to theaters in July 2017. That movie depicts a young Peter Parker; played by Tom Holland, he starts the movie at age 15.

In other news about the game, Insomniac recently confirmed that the impressive trailer from E3 was shot entirely in-engine and was captured on the current PS4, not the upcoming high-end model.
